For the second month in a row, after a Supreme Court order allowed women of all ages to enter the Sabarimala temple, the hill shrine closed for another two weeks this evening without a single woman activist of reproductive age crossing its gates.
The devotees not allowed entering to shrine around a dozen of women activist last month, with huge police protection. Two of them had reached close to the final 18 steps to the temple.
Some women had even tried to enter wearing police uniforms but they could even make to break the devotee’s sentiments.
The Kerala High Court has told the state government that it has no right to interfere in the day-to-day affairs of the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple. The government’s role, the court said, should be confined to maintaining law and order in the area.
